Police Week Connects CPD and Community

Police Week was recognized nationally May 11-17, and the Champaign Police Department celebrated the week with events, ceremonies, and numerous opportunities to connect with our community.
Alongside Gold Star families, elected leaders, City officials, and community members, the Police Department paused on May 13 to honor its three fallen heroes at the department’s annual Police Memorial. You can watch this moving and somber ceremony on CGTV or on the City’s website.
Then on May 14, Champaign Police joined other City departments and area businesses at the Champaign Park District’s Touch-a-Truck event, which gave little ones a chance to climb inside vehicles and learn about the community’s helpers through hands-on experiences.

Also on May 14, CPD’s Awards Ceremony gave Police Chief Timothy T. Tyler an opportunity to recognize dozens of staff for their efforts with commendations. The Department also celebrated Employee of the Year G. David Frye and Officer of the Year Lauren Hill. Details on the Awards Ceremony can be found on CPD’s website and a recording of the event airs regularly on CGTV and is available to watch on the City’s website.
Closing out the week, CPD invited residents to stop by the Police Department on May 17 as part of the biennial CPD Open House. The event included the opportunity to view historical exhibits, take a tour, and learn about the training and technology used by specialized units within the Department.
Champaign Police wish to thank everyone who attended events during the 2025 Police Week!
