Help Us Celebrate Juneteenth!
Juneteenth is recognized as the day that news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865, freeing the last of the enslaved people there. This year, we honor and celebrate the 160th anniversary of the date that marked the end of slavery in the United States. Community members are invited to come together for vibrant celebrations filled with fun and learning to celebrate this historic moment.

Join in a community celebration hosted by the Champaign Public Library and the Champaign Park District on Saturday, June 14, from 12 – 3 pm at Douglass Park. Bring your family and friends to enjoy live performances, a maker-market, community resources, food vendors, and activities for all ages. Enjoy delicious food, engaging games, arts and crafts, and explore more than 50 local vendors showcasing a wide variety of goods and services. Discover the rich history and significance of Juneteenth through interactive experiences and educational displays. Family-friendly activities will include face painting, a bounce house for kids, and much more, making it a day everyone can enjoy. The new Makerspace at the Douglass Branch Library will also be open for tours and technology demonstrations.

The celebration doesn’t end there!
Festivities continue with a Juneteenth Concert at Douglass Park on Wednesday, June 19, from 5-7 pm featuring Afro D and Global Soundwaves. Bring your love for music as we close out the Juneteenth celebration with an unforgettable evening!
